TEEN BOOK REVIEWS

  Title:  Unwind
                       Author:   Neal Shusterman

“This book takes place in the future after a war has abolished abortion. Instead, with parent’s order or state order, those between the ages of thirteen and eighteen can have their lives ‘unwound’ and their body parts harvested for use by others. Three teenagers go to extreme lengths to stay alive by running away and staying in hiding as best they can. This is a haunting story in so many ways. It doesn’t matter what your present position is on the abortion issue, this book will make you think. There is one chapter that goes through the ‘unwinding’ process, and even though it happens to a character you are not very fond of, it is still heartwrenching!  This book is appropriate for teenagers and adults.”

Title: The Invention of Hugo Cabret: a novel in words and pictures
                    Author: Brian Selznick

“Hugo is a 12 year old orphan living secretively inside the walls of a train station in Paris. He repairs and maintains the clocks, just as his uncle had, so that no one knows that his uncle is gone and he is alone. He meets interesting people who help him discover things about himself and his family. But, he must be careful or his secret life will be revealed. This is an interesting tale told in word and many illustrations. You can read this book in one night, it goes that fast. This book is appropriate for young adults.”
